Santiago del Estero Tragedy: 17-Year-Old Soccer Star’s Death
A 17-year-old footballer from Club Atlético Mitre was found dead in his uncle’s house on Friday in Santiago del Estero. Ilan Yian González is one of the team’s promising players, who alternated between Reserve and First Division matches in the local league. According to the media in that province, the young man committed suicide.
Following the shocking news, the club issued a statement on social media to report what had happened and express its condolences to the family and friends of the young man who played as a striker.
“It is with deep pain and sadness that we regret to report the death of footballer Yan González, a player who was currently part of our First Division and Reserve squad in the competition organized by the Santiago Football League,” was announced on the institution’s Facebook account. It was completed by saying, “We send our condolences to his family and friends for this irreparable loss.”
The footballer’s girlfriend also expressed her dismay on her Instagram account. “Today, July 26, I say goodbye with the greatest pain in the world to the man I loved the most, this beautiful black boy with whom I had plans for the future, a partner in madness, father of our beautiful BB (sic),” wrote Ana Sandez.
And she continued: “My beautiful angel, those beautiful memories we had will always be with me—that beautiful smile that drove me so crazy—I love you forever. I will always have you marked in my soul, heart, and body. I will never love someone like I loved you, and I love you.”
Messages of affection for the player also arrived on his personal Instagram account on Friday night and Saturday morning.
“I’m going to miss you and need you so much, black 😢 Give strength to your family and to your brothers at theclub,b as you used to tell them. You take a part of my heart with you,” wrote a user named Carla Romero.
“Wherever you are, dear Ilan, I’m with you, and I hug you tight. Sorry for not having helped you 😢,” added a person identified as Guadalupe.
In the context of his death, relatives indicated that González stood out for his goal-scoring ability and his talent on the field, which made him a key figure for his team and a hope for the future of Club Atlético Mitre.
