Mission Impossible 8: Release Date, Trailer & Cast Details

The Mission Impossible 8 has been associated with Tom Cruise‘s name for almost 30 years. It is clear that the Hollywood star has a soft spot for the character of Ethan Hunt, as it is the one he has played the most times throughout his career by far. Of course, Mission: Impossible 8 was supposed to be his last time, but everything points to a change of plans.

Now it’s time to review everything we know about Mission Impossible 8, from its release date to its cast, without forgetting all the setbacks suffered during filming. Obviously, all the information will be updated as more details about it are revealed.

When is Mission Impossible 8 released in theaters?

The exclusive theatrical release of Mission: Impossible 8 is scheduled for May 23, 2025, being, without a doubt, one of the most anticipated films of next year.

However, its release date has already been delayed up to four times, so the possibility of a new postponement should not be ruled out. Its release was initially set for August 5, 2022, but was postponed to November 4, 2022, then moved to July 7, 2023, and later to June 28, 2024.

What is the title for Mission Impossible 8?

The logical thing would have been for the film to be titled Mission: Impossible: Death Sentence—Part 2, but the box office failure of its predecessor has led to the drastic decision to do away with the Part 2 tagline and opt for something different. However, the studio has not yet revealed what the new title will be.

Mission Impossible 8 cast and protagonists

Tom Cruise is back again in the role of Ethan Hunt. Mission Impossible 8 was initially said to be the final installment in the series, but Christopher McQuarrie has hinted that more might be possible depending on how audiences respond. Mind you, it could always be a ruse to try to catch us all off guard.

In addition, Mission Impossible 8 will bring back several characters from the saga. For example, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg will once again play Luther and Benji, two powerful allies of the protagonist. Meanwhile, Hayley Atwell will repeat her role as Grace, Vanessa Kirby will once again transform into Alanna, Henry Czerny will reprise Kittridge, Esai Morales will play Gabriel, Shea Wingham will play Briggs, Greg Tarzan Davis will play Degas, Pom Klementieff will play Paris, and Mariela Garriga will play Marie.

However, the most unexpected return in Mission Impossible 8 will be that of Rolf Saxon as William Donloe, the CIA analyst who was transferred to Alaska after Ethan Hunt stole the secret files he was supposed to protect in the first installment.

Barring a huge surprise—one so big that it could only happen in a saga like Mission: Impossible—Rebecca Ferguson will not return as Ilsa Faust, while Jeremy Renner‘s return as William Brandt is also unlikely, despite the actor having confessed that he is ready to return to the saga.

Among the new additions are Holt McCallany ‘Mindhunter ), who will play Bernstein, the United States Secretary of Defense, and Nick Offerman (The Last of Us), who will play Sydney, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Also joining the series are characters yet to be confirmed: Janet McTeer, Hannah Waddingham, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, and Tramell Tillman.

McQuarrie returns as director, a role he has exclusively played in the series since Rogue Nation. He is also back on the script alongside Erik Jendresen, with whom he wrote the previous installment.

Mission Impossible8—filming

The initial plan was to shoot it back-to-back with Mission: Impossible, but in the end only a few scenes were recorded. The bulk of filming for Mission Impossible 8 began in March 2022 in the United Kingdom and has also taken place in different locations in Malta, South Africa, Italy, and Norway.

The promotional campaign for Deadly Sentence forced a pause in filming, and the Hollywood strikes forced it to be halted for several months. Finally, the cameras rolled again in March 2024, but in May everything had to be stopped again for weeks due to a breakdown in a 23 million-pound submarine.

All of this has led to the film’s budget spiraling out of control, with some media outlets even suggesting that it could already reach $400 million.

However, in July 2024, Simon Pegg announced that he had already finished filming his scenes, so it is likely that filming will come to an end very soon.
