Twisters Box Office: $32.2 Million Opening Day Success
The long-awaited sequel “Twisters” has debuted strongly, grossing $32.2 million on its first day at 4,151 theaters, including Thursday preview screenings. The impressive start puts the film on track for a $74 million opening weekend, surpassing initial industry projections.
Universal’s new natural disaster thriller now competes with Universal’s “Gru 4,” which had a $75 million debut, for the fourth-biggest opening of the year. The openings “Inside Out 2” with $154 million, “Dune: Part 2” with $82 million, and “Godzilla & Kong” with $80 million are all above it.
“Twisters,” produced by Amblin and distributed by Warner Bros., continues the legacy of the 1996 classic “Twister,” which was a huge box office hit. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the sequel features an ensemble cast that includes Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos. With a budget of $155 million, the film hopes to replicate the success of its predecessor.
