Matthew Perry: A doctor and drug dealers were arrested for the tragic death of the actor
The investigation into the tragic death of Matthew Perry, best known for his popular role as Chandler Bing on Friends, has taken a significant turn with the making of several arrests, including at least one doctor, TMZ reported.
The actor was found dead at the age of 54 in his hot tub in October 2023, and his death has been under scrutiny ever since. The cause of his death has been linked to the “acute effects of ketamine,” an anesthetic that is also used in therapies to treat depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction issues.
Law enforcement sources told the outlet that several U.S. agencies, including the DEA, have executed search warrants, seizing computers, phones, and other electronic equipment to identify those who supplied the ketamine that caused Perry to lose consciousness and drown.
Perry had been receiving ketamine infusion therapy to treat anxiety and depression, but it was revealed in 2024 that the last session was a week and a half before his passing, suggesting that the drug present in his system at the time of his death was not legally prescribed by a doctor.
Investigators have found that the performer had a level of ketamine in his system equivalent to that used for general anesthesia in surgical procedures.
TMZ’s sources shared that “the ketamine Perry ingested was not legally prescribed” and that multiple agencies, including the DEA, the US Postal Service, and the Los Angeles Police Department, have been involved in a criminal investigation for months.
The investigation has led to the arrest of at least one doctor, as well as several dealers who facilitated the drug delivery to Perry. The search warrant uncovered text messages discussing “Perry and the ketamine he wanted and what they were doing to get it,” as well as the monetary price the actor was willing to pay.
Celebrities involved in the death of Matthew Perry
Meanwhile, authorities have obtained a search warrant for Brooke Mueller, Charlie Sheen‘s ex-wife, who had been in a drug treatment facility with Perry. However, so far, her name has not been linked to the arrests. The investigation also revealed that other Hollywood celebrities are involved in the illegal distribution of drugs and pharmaceuticals, which increases the magnitude of the problem.
Perry had long faced a battle with alcohol and opioid addiction. In her 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, she addressed her experience with ketamine therapy.
During an interview with People to promote the book, the TV star opened up about his struggle with addiction and the long recovery process he went through. He revealed his dependence on substances and the numerous attempts at rehabilitation required to achieve sobriety.
“I wanted to share my story when I was truly safe from falling back to the dark side. I needed to be sufficiently secure in my sobriety and away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction before writing it all down,” the actor said at the time.
The criminal investigation could lead to charges against “multiple people” in connection with her death. A source told People that authorities are “close to reaching a conclusion” in their inquiries.
