Planet of the Apes Box Office Preview: Will Exceed $50 Million
The release of “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” has marked a strong start at the US box office, grossing $22.2 million on its first day in 4,075 theaters, including $6.6 million from Thursday previews. The film is estimated to reach between $52 and $56 million during its opening weekend, a figure that aligns with previous releases in the saga.
Directed by Wes Ball, known for his work on the “Labyrinth Runner” trilogy, “The Kingdom” is presented as the beginning of a new trilogy in this famous science fiction franchise. Set 300 years after “War for the Planet of the Apes,” the plot follows a chimpanzee named Noa, played by Owen Teague, on his adventure to save his family from the ruthless Proximus Caesar, played by Kevin Durand. The film also introduces Freya Allan as Mae, a young woman who could be the key to human survival.
While “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” dominates the box office, “The Specialist” and “Rivals” continue to compete for supporting spots, with “Godzilla and Kong: The New Empire” still maintaining a strong performance in its seventh week, despite being now available in the USA for digital rental.
