Idris Elba to star in TV adaptation of ‘Things Fall Apart’
Idris Elba will star in the A24 television adaptation of ‘Things Fall Apart’, a novel written in English published in 1958 by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe.
The series will tell the story of Okonkwo (Elba), a brave African warrior and leader who is determined to preserve his people and culture. As British colonizers disrupt his world, Okonkwo’s struggle to maintain power and tradition turns into a harrowing confrontation. His steely determination, a fatal flaw in the face of unstoppable change, makes him an unforgettable character, embodying the tension between strength, vulnerability and adaptability.
Elba will also executive produce alongside Gina Carter for 22Summers, David Oyelowo and Amanda N’Duka for Yoruba Saxon, Ben Forkner, Dayo Ogunyemi and Achebe Masterworks. While it remains to be seen which platform will acquire the rights to the series, there are currently no writers attached to the project.
The actor will soon be in the third installment of ‘Sonic the Movie’, which will be released next December, and also in ‘Heads of State’, a film by Ilya Naishuller where he will be accompanied by John Cena, Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino and Jack Quaid.
