Foreign Affairs confirms that it will activate the evacuation of Lebanon as soon as it is considered necessary
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that an evacuation plan for Lebanon is already in place, but it does not provide details, but guarantees that it will be implemented as soon as it is considered necessary depending on the evolution of events.
Official sources from the Foreign Ministry have stressed the announcement of this plan made by the head of Spanish diplomacy, José Manuel Albares, from New York, where he is accompanying the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to various events on the occasion of the UN High Level Week.
The situation in Lebanon is considered by the sources cited to be very worrying because it shows that the escalation that was being warned about in the Middle East has already begun and there is no indication that it will stop.
Given this serious and alarming situation, they have insisted that Spain has prepared an evacuation plan that – they emphasize – is not in place and will only be activated when it is considered necessary, but they avoid offering details in this regard.
They do remember that evacuation plans were already activated in other places such as Ukraine, Sudan, Niger and Gaza.
While waiting for it to be implemented, the Foreign Ministry has again advised against travelling to Lebanon under any circumstances and has asked Spaniards living there, especially those who are in transit for tourism or work, to leave the country on commercial flights that are still operating.
The current situation in Lebanon was reflected in Albares’ speech at the reception he offered at the residence of the Spanish ambassador to the UN, pointing out that it was an issue that had been discussed shortly before in a meeting between the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres.
In this regard, he highlighted the work of the Spanish military personnel participating in the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, UNIFIL, and condemned the ” tragedy ” that this country is experiencing.
