BTS’s Suga fined $11,500 for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated
Suga, one of the members of the successful K-Pop band BTS, has been fined 15 million won (about 11,500 dollars) for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol.
A court in the Western District of Seoul imposed this fine on him on September 27, according to sources close to the case cited this Monday (local time) by the Yonhap agency.
The prosecution had requested exactly that punishment for Suga, 31 years old and whose real name is Min Yoon-gi.
The police found Suga on August 6 lying on the ground next to an electric scooter near his home in the Yongsan district, in Seoul.
The musician confessed that he had been drinking during a dinner and that he had driven the electric vehicle until he parked it near his house.
Police determined that his blood alcohol level when he was taken to the station was 0.227%, above the maximum 0.08% allowed for driving a motor vehicle in South Korea.
The artist publicly apologized the following day for the incident, which led to his driving license being revoked.
Suga is currently serving his alternative social service, as a result of a shoulder injury, which exempted him from military service, which is mandatory for all able-bodied males in South Korea.
He plans to complete his alternative service in June next year and then return to the stage, like his bandmates, most of whom are currently serving in the military.
