Wednesday Season 2 Updates: Release Date, Cast, and Plots
If there is a member of the Addams about whom we would have signed a ‘spin-off’ with our eyes closed, it would have always been without a doubt Wednesday, the eldest daughter of Morticia and Gomez that Christina Ricci played in The Addams Family of 1991 and its later sequel, and that completely marked an entire generation. The creators of the series that would later sweep Netflix were also clear about it and even captivated Tim Burton himself with the idea of it, but perhaps they were not prepared for the bombshell they had on their hands.
Wednesday was among the most anticipated of the year 2022, but it far exceeded expectations and became one of Netflix’s biggest hits. So much so that it is the series that leads the Top 1 views on the platform, even ahead of season 4 of Stranger Things.
Take note below of everything we know about Wednesday season 2:
Has Netflix Ordered Wednesday Season 2?
Netflix confirmed the renewal of Wednesday for a second season in January 2023, three months after its first installment turned out to be a real success.
Although the order took a long time to come, the renewal seemed more than assured from the beginning, mainly because the creators were the first interested in this happening, and for Netflix, it was going to be a win-win to continue keeping such a successful series on the grid.
“We feel like we’ve only just touched the surface of these characters,” responded one of the showrunners of the series, Miles Millar, in an interview with TVLine. “There is definitely more to explore in the world of the Addams,” added the other, Alfred Gough, in statements to Empire.
Wednesday season 2 release date
There is no release date yet.
The 2023 Hollywood strikes delayed the start of production on the new season, and in November of that same year, it was confirmed that Wednesday season 2 would begin filming in Ireland in April 2024.
If we look at the times that season 1 managed, it began filming in September 2021 and lasted approximately six months before ending in March 2022. It then took eight more months to see the light of day on Netflix.
If we had similar figures for season 2, we would be talking about about 14, so it is most likely that the new installment will premiere at some point in 2025.
Who will be back and who will not in Wednesday Season 2 Cast
The first name is basic: without Jenna Ortega as Wednesday, there is simply no Wednesday. And we can also count on Thing (Victor Dorobantu) accompanying her wherever she goes.
Likewise, the return of her Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White) is also quite necessary, who now, with Tyler out of the picture, can gain prominence in the eyes of the protagonist, while the presence of her former love interest also seems likely despite everything that was revealed in the end.
It seems certain that Christina Ricci’s Mrs. Thornhill will continue to seek success in her ambitions, and although Gwendoline Christie’s Larissa Weems would be the most predictable non-return, in this universe in which magic exists, the door cannot be closed to those who are among the dead. Of course, with Sandman (in which Christie also appears) having renewed, let’s cross our fingers that there are no scheduling conflicts for the actress who ends up sentencing Larissa.
Finally, we can count on the return of the rest of the cast, unless otherwise announced for some reason that now escapes us: Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Sunday of Joy as Bianca Barclay, George Farmer as Ajax Pertroplus, Naomi J. Ogawa as Yoko Tanaka, Jamie McShane as Donovan Galpin, Luis Guzman as Gomez Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Stink.
It has also been confirmed that a new member of the Addams is joining in this new stage, although it has not been said who it will be.
What plots will Wednesday Season 2 address?
At the moment, not many details have been advanced, but it seems quite certain that the new installment will address the identity of Wednesday’s stalker, who he is, and why he is doing what he does. “The goal is to intrigue and make the audience ask those kinds of questions,” Millar told TVGuide about this mystery. “The story could take them in numerous directions, and it depends on season 2.”
In addition, we can also bet that Wednesday season 2 will bring back some enemies with whom everything is not over: on the one hand, Marilyn Thornhill, who is still alive and could return for revenge; but also Tyler, whose true identity we now know but who surely still has more to offer. Likewise, the team has confirmed that the arrival of new family members will affect the plots and that Wednesday and Morticia will share more screen time.
“I think everything is bigger,” Jenna Ortega said of season two on the Emmys red carpet. “It’s got a lot more action. I think each episode will probably feel a little more like a movie, which is good.”
