Trump: “They are downplaying my second assassination attempt”
Former President and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has attacked the US Department of Justice and the FBI, accusing them of showing tolerance for the man behind the alleged assassination attempt on him, the second before the November election.
“Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s Justice Department and the FBI are mishandling and downplaying the second assassination attempt on my life since July. The charges brought against the maniac killer are a slap in the face,” the former president wrote. In his message, he also claimed that the two agencies are conspiring against him, taking into account the two impeachments, as well as his involvement in the attack on January 6, 2021, when his supporters attacked the seat of the Legislative branch.
“The Department of Justice and the FBI have a conflict of interest, as they have been obsessed with ‘getting Trump’ for so long,” the former White House occupant added. On what authorities are investigating as an attempted murder, the state of Florida will open its own investigation regarding the incident, which occurred at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach. On that, the tycoon added: “If the Department of Justice and the FBI cannot do their jobs honestly and without bias, Governor Ron DeSantis and the State of Florida have already agreed to take the lead in the investigation and prosecution.”
FBI says violent crime has decreased in the United States
Such incidents were down last year from the previous year, according to statistics released by the agency on Monday, contradicting Trump’s claim that violence is out of control. The overall decline was 3 percent, with an 11.6 percent drop in murders, a 9.4 percent drop in rapes and a 2.8 percent drop in physical assaults. The former president and Republican presidential candidate has claimed, without evidence, at his rallies about a “crime wave” in the country, which he blames on immigrants, and has questioned the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s statistics.
