Tom Cruise Sofia Vergara Romance: Why She Ran Away
Colombian Sofia Vergara is one of the most beautiful and spontaneous women in Hollywood. Her overwhelming personality and undeniable talent have contributed to the consolidation of a solid career. Currently, the Barranquilla native is the most famous Colombian actress in the world, as well as one of the most expensive in the industry.
Last year, when it was made official that Sofia was separating from Joe Magnaniello, she was once again one of the most eligible singles. It was said in media such as Heat that Tom Cruise, upon seeing her again without a commitment, tried to win her back since in 2004 they had a romance that lasted only a few months. ‘La Toti’ paid little attention to the flirtations of Mission Impossible’s star.
According to the recent book Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography, written by journalist Andrew Morton, the Colombian, who recently celebrated her 52nd birthday in Italy, does not have the desire to sustain a romantic relationship that could lead to marriage or cohabitation because of what happened 20 years ago with the actor, who is 61 years old.
Tom Cruise thought about having something serious with Sofia Vergara.
According to the report, Tom Cruise and Sofia Vergara met in 2004, months after the actor and his Spanish colleague Penelope Cruz, who had been dating for three years, broke up.
The actor gave his superiors in Scientology, the religion he practices, a list of possible women who could become his partners, and Sofia was on this list. For that reason, the actor Will Smith would have been a kind of matchmaker, because in February 2005, he was the one who invited her to a pre-Oscars party where he knew Tom would be.
According to Morton, the whole thing was “a setup” to get them to meet, and Sofia was reportedly “dazzled by Tom’s megawatt smile and amused by the avalanche of phone calls, flowers, and chocolates that followed their first meeting.”
That flirting didn’t have any further significance until February 21, when they were caught by photographers; however, according to Instyle, it all ended before it began.
Sofia Vergara freaked out when Tom Cruise brought her together with a science leader.
What happened next is truly revealing. Tom invited the Colombian to visit the Celebrity Center for Scientology, as he wanted to introduce her.
She agreed, and they met with David Miscavige, the church’s leader. “It soon became clear that she was being auditioned for the most important role of her life: Mrs. Tom Cruise,”” Morton wrote. “It was made clear that if she accepted the role, she would have to renounce her Catholic faith and convert to Scientology,” and that was something Vergara didn’t want, so she pretty much chose to distance herself from it.
“She was fundamentally terrified of Scientology,” a friend of Griselda’s protagonist revealed to Morton. “She sincerely believed that God would strike her down and burn her in hell if she joined.”
After his attempt to woo Sofia Vergara, Tom met Katie Holmes and began a relationship with her that led to marriage. They separated in 2012.
