Dave Grohl revealed that he had a daughter out of wedlock
Dave Grohl, the frontman of the band Foo Fighters, has admitted to having fathered a daughter out of wedlock. Through a statement published on his Instagram account, the 55-year-old musician—married to Jordyn Blum—announced the birth of the baby and explained that he will be responsible for her upbringing.
“I have recently become a father to a baby girl, who was born out of wedlock. plan to be a loving and supportive father to her,” wrote the artist, who also lamented the moment of crisis in his family.
“I love my wife and children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness,” he added. “I also thank them for their consideration for the girls involved.”
In his statement, Grohl did not provide additional details about the mother of his new daughter or the exact nature of their relationship.
Jordyn Blum, to whom Grohl has been married since 2003, has been a constant figure in the musician’s public life, although the couple generally keeps a low profile. Together they have three daughters: Violet, 18; Harper, 15; and Ophelia, 10.
NME reported that the two eldest daughters no longer had active Instagram accounts at the time of publication. The family has not provided any additional comment to the former Nirvana drummer’s statement.
Before getting married to Blum, the singer had been married to Jennifer Leigh Youngblood. The couple got together in 1994 and separated in 1997. According to The Guardian, the reason for the split was infidelity.
The Grohl family has maintained a relatively low-key presence in the public eye. In 2023, Blum and Grohl attended the Grammy Awards with their daughters, where the family posed together on the red carpet. Jordyn wore a short black sequined dress, while Dave opted for an all-black outfit. Their daughters also made a statement at the event, with Violet wearing a blazer and knee-high boots, Harper in a floral dress and chunky-soled boots, and Ophelia in a loose-fitting dress.
Most recently, in July 2024, the family was spotted at the Wimbledon tennis tournament in London, where Grohl and Blum took up the prestigious Royal Box seats alongside other celebrities, including David Beckham.
Violet, Dave’s eldest heiress, began to get involved with her father’s band and had attended some recent Foo Fighters shows. NME recalled her involvement in the song “Show Me How,” which the group released as a track on the album But Here We Are, a production prepared after the deaths of Grohl’s mother and drummer Taylor Hawkins.
The rocker has previously shared his thoughts and feelings about his family on several occasions, highlighting the impact his children have had on his career. In an interview with TIME in 2009, Grohl said that life had changed for him since becoming a father.
“I used to tour nine months a year. Now I don’t like to be away from my kids for more than 12 days. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply, and you’re maybe a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that comes through in your music,” he said.
