Danny Boyle 28 Years Later Begins Filming on Holy Island
The acclaimed Danny Boyle is back with his latest film project, which is currently in production and filming in the north-east of England. “28 Years Later” is the long-awaited post-apocalyptic sequel to the films “28 Days Later” and “28 Weeks Later” and is scheduled for release next year.
Locations and local participation
Filming has taken place in various locations, including Newcastle, Kielder Forest, and, most notably, Holy Island, over the past three weeks. The presence of the film crew has not gone unnoticed, and hundreds of people from the area have responded to the call to participate as extras, playing hordes of zombies full of fury in mass scenes on the island.
The cast is headed by Jack O’Connell, Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes, and everything points to the return of Cillian Murphy, protagonist of the first installment and producer of the sequel. Boyle himself and Alex Garland signed the script.
