Aaron Judge Ejected for First Time in Yankees’ Win Over Tigers
It took 870 games in the Major Leagues for Aaron Judge to be ejected for the first time in his MLB career. The New York Yankees outfielder was thrown out of the game against the Detroit Tigers, which ended with a score of 5-3 in favor of the New Yorkers, during the seventh inning of the game.
Umpire Ryan Blakney called a pitch that appeared to be outside the strike zone a strike three, and the judge struck out Tyler Holton. ‘The Judge’ protested the referee’s decision and was sent to the showers before the match ended.
After the game, the Yankees outfielder stated that he was very surprised by the expulsion since he has had worse tantrums and has had no repercussions. Furthermore, he noted that he had never been expelled from a game.
“Especially in a 5-3 game, at the end of the game, with the count 3-2, I kind of walked away saying my piece,” the judge said. “I’ve said a lot worse things and made a scene. I usually try not to make a scene in situations like that, so I kind of surprised myself by walking away from what happened.”
‘The Judge’ was the first Yankee captain to be ejected from a game since 1994. On that occasion, Don Mattingly had the disgrace of being thrown out of the game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The judge went 2-for-4 with an RBI and managed to score twice. His first at-bat was a single to right field, and then he stepped on the home plate after a line drive by Giancarlo Stanton. The second at-bat was an RBI double on the third roll.
