Who was Tito, Michael Jackson’s older brother who died of a heart attack?
Tito Jackson, member of the famous group the Jackson 5 and brother of the King of Pop, died this Sunday, September 15, as confirmed by his nephew, Siggy Jackson, to People magazine.
According to reports, the 70-year-old musician died after suffering a heart attack.
Prior to his death, Tito was still performing alongside his brothers Jackie Jackson and Marlon Jackson as The Jacksons, and had shows in Scotland, California, and England this summer.
Their most recent performance was on September 8 in Surrey, England, and they had performances scheduled for October 25 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and November 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Just this week, while visiting Munich, the brothers visited a memorial dedicated to Michael. About this, Tito wrote on Facebook: “We just visited the beautiful memorial dedicated to our dear brother, Michael Jackson. We are deeply grateful for this very special place that honors not only his memory, but also the legacy we share. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive.”
Tito was an original member of the Jackson 5, a group that also included his brothers Michael, Jackie, Jermaine and Marlon (and later Randy),
The group enjoyed great success in the 1970s with songs such as “I Want You Back,” “ABC” and “I’ll Be There.” The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
After this, Tito began a solo career releasing two albums: Tito Time in 2016 and Under Your Spell in 2021.
In 2003, Tito began playing and touring blues and funk around the world, according to his website. He also toured with the BB King Blues Band on occasion, most notably in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
His latest single, “Love One Another,” was released in 2021. In the song’s YouTube description, Tito said the track was recorded in the wake of the pandemic and noted that his “goal was to convey a message of love, unity, and peace, offering a balm for difficult times.”
