US Box Office Preview: “Savage Robot” crowns while “Megalopolis” disappoints

Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s new animated film ” Robot Savage ” has exceeded initial expectations, debuting to $35 million in its opening weekend. The Chris Sanders -directed film was projected to gross between $24 and $30 million, but its strong performance has allowed it to take the lead at the box office, unseating Tim Burton ‘s ” Beetlechus Beetlechus ,” which falls to second place with $16 million in its fourth week.

In contrast, Francis Ford Coppola ‘s ambitious production ” Megalopolis ” has had a disappointing performance in its theatrical release, grossing just $4.6 million. With a $120 million budget financed largely by Coppola himself, the film has failed to attract enough viewers despite its cast led by Adam Driver and Aubrey Plaza .

Megalopolis falls in fifth place at the box office, behind the Indian action film ” Devara: Part 1 ,” which debuted to $6.7 million. In third place is ” Transformers One ,” starring Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry , which grossed $9.3 million in its second week. Tomorrow is the final top 10.
