To be honest, I never expected to enjoy Deadpool and Wolverine so much. I entered the theater with a look of distrust—after all, the MCU hasn’t exactly been the panacea for the last few years—but little by little, I noticed how this turned into a smile from ear to ear that lasted until the lights came on after the post-credits scene.
A brand new cameo
Much of the blame for this, in addition to Ryan Reynolds’s good hand at coming up with and uttering all kinds of savagery, has been due to cameos that have gone beyond stale and pointless fan service to, in addition to paying homage to a quintessential era of superhero cinema, make the audience vibrate with a good handful of truly unexpected surprises.
Perhaps the biggest one—or second, if you don’t count a certain X-Men with a Louisiana accent—was seeing Chris Evans back as none other than Johnny Storm 17 years after Fantastic Four: The Silver Surfer, after a reveal scene that played a trick on everyone and had many of us howling like madmen.
Evans has celebrated his participation in the third ‘Deadpool’ as the Human Torch with an Instagram story in which he showed his gratitude to Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and Shawn Levy with a photograph of the four and the following text.
Thank you to Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy for allowing me to be a part of such an amazing movie! They are three of the nicest guys you will ever meet. A special thanks to Ryan for making this all happen. Reprising Johnny was a dream come true, and he will always have a special place in my heart.
Of course, you have to love these people.
