Android App Security Risks: 4000 Users Threatened by Malware
Without applications, our smartphones would not be the same, since these platforms and services are what give our device abilities so that it can do all the things it can do. However, these have also become the gateway for many cyberattacks, and Microsoft has just warned that there are more than 4,000 Android users who are at risk of suffering one due to a series of infected apps.
The company that created Windows carried out an investigation where it discovered a vulnerability present in a wide list of Android mobile apps, and although they discovered this danger in February, at that time they only notified the developers of said platforms so that they could solve it.
Now, Microsoft has decided to make this information public, although the truth is that for security reasons they have not published a list of affected apps, but, for example, they have pointed out the Xiaomi file explorer.
For your peace of mind, the developers have fixed these errors to make the affected apps safe again. Apparently, in general terms, the error corresponded to low security when handling the file name provided by the server application.
This makes it easier for cybercriminals to impersonate a legitimate app with a malicious one. To solve this, Microsoft proposes that developers not trust user input. As we said, these vulnerabilities have already been corrected, so in general terms, they should not be a problem.
Of course, we say this in the event that you have the latest update of your apps installed. Since the developers have extended the corrections in the versions that have been released in recent months, if you are not familiar with having updated recently, you must do it as soon as possible to avoid being exposed to any type of attack.
