Spain closed its preparation for the European Championship with a draw (1-1) against Italy in Castel di Sangro that left wanting more. The group led by Jorge Vilda dominated the statistics, but on the green they suffered to the point of having to come back from a goal against, finally saved with a draw that allowed them to maintain the unbeaten record that they activated in March 2020.
Jorge Vilda once again showed that he does not understand friendlies or tryouts and took out his gala eleven despite being the last friendly prior to the European Championship. Spain showed a good version from the initial whistle, with rhythm, intensity and daring. He did not take long to bottle up in his own field an Italy limited to go on the counterattack, but lacking players as vertical as to do damage. And in each attempt, there it was Mapi establishing himself as one of the best center backs in the world.
When attacking there were occasions to open the scoring. The clearest ones had their origin in a skillful band where Batlle drew a highway in which Luca put more desire than success. Mariona, omnipresent; Bonmat, arriving from the second row; Alexia, as she wants and where she wants; and Esther, who had her head, touched the goal that was resisted in the first act.
Italy maximized its performance at the start of the second act and took oil from the first corner -and first shot on goal- that it had. A center thrown from the right that Bergamaschi finished at the far post at the back of the cage, anticipating Esther’s mark.
suffering and draw
Spain tried to react immediately, and could do so if Guijarro’s shot from the crescent would not have hit the crossbar, but the truth is that the goal against gave rise to the worst minutes of a blurred Spain that ran after the ball. However, he managed to tie the game with twenty minutes to go with a center from Batlle’s right hand headed by Alexia to the cage. There was no better way to celebrate 100 caps…
The carousel of changes dosed minutes between the most punished players, but beyond seeing Aleixandri in the center of the field and Luca playing ‘9’ for leaving the band to Cardona, little else was seen. Pina and Sheila, in addition to the goalkeepers Lola and Misa, will arrive at the continental event without minutes in the preparation. Next stop, the European Championship in England, where a better version of the view is expected today…
