ANDhe coach of Espanyol, Diego Martínez, affirmed this Tuesday after eliminating Celta in the Copa del Rey at the RCDE Stadium that the players “have made everyone feel proud” against a “very strong” rival.
The coach, at a press conference, praised the team and noted that they deserved “victory” and highlighted the unity with the stands: “The group wanted to share the moment with the fans and give continuity to the joy from two days ago (the tie to one in the derby against Barcelona). It was a very nice moment.”
In any case, the Galician opted to avoid relaxation and insisted on the need to “continue strong”. In addition, I did not hide that the block must “run errors” because, he commented, “Celta’s first goal is very avoidable”.
In this sense, the blue and white coach stressed that a “long and hard” road awaits Espanyol this season. “Everything costs a lot of effort and we continue to have many needs to cover. If we go to the present, the team has given everything it had”, he reflected.
Asked by the Mexican central Cesar Montesthe last signing of the club that debuted against Celta, Diego Martínez commented that it is important to give “time” to his adaptation: “He comes to add and help and we need the best of each one, the truth”.
Regarding the discomfort of the Celta coach, Carlos Carvalhal, with the arbitration, the coach did not want to argue with the referee’s actions. “Refereeing is very difficult and we have all gotten used to VAR (which is not active in the Cup until the quarterfinals). I’m left with the fact that my team has known how to adapt.”
