John Sir, like any fan who loves Real Zaragoza, faces the new shareholder change of the Aragonese club with some enthusiasm. The former soccer player wants this change to be for the better and the new leaders to be able to provide the entity with the necessary structure with the best professionals to take it to the First Division once and for all, his natural habitat.
QUESTION. How do you see the change that has occurred at Real Zaragoza with the arrival of Jorge Mas?
RESPONSE. He would say that Real Zaragoza needed a change. First property and then a profound change. Not specific to people but to the way of managing a club. That change goes through many issues. One is that you have to recover any way you can to all those Zaragoza fans who have left disenchanted or continue, simply because their Zaragoza soul is stronger. You have to recover the illusion of all those people who have grown tired of one mistake after another.
P. And then wait for the ball to want to go in to win the games, right?
R. It is clear that the sporting result helps almost everything, but for that sporting result to exist you first have to have an absolute criterion of everything. From the operation of the club, from departments with true professionals and with degrees of responsibility… Everything adds up to achieve the success that we all want.
Q. Ral Sanlleh has become Jorge Mas’s strong man at the new Real Zaragoza. He has been working for months now. He knows him?
R. It has a track record. Oh it is. I met him recently because I was invited to the box by the majority shareholders of Burgos, with whom I have a good relationship. We greet each other and meet at various places in the stadium. Also in the changing room tunnel because he went down to greet Alberto Belsu, Javi Surez…
P. Sanlleh has been in important clubs like Barcelona and Arsenal. Do you think that those contacts that he may have is what Real Zaragoza needed to recover?
R. Contacts are important in the world of football, but so are the criteria for choosing the people who are responsible for making this structure work well. There are management models that have worked in many places. In Zaragoza we are not more handsome because yes. You have to do a good job.
P. It seemed that the club was going to bet on a coach with experience in the Second Division and the chosen one was Juan Carlos Carcedo. Did the choice surprise you?
R. A little yes. It sounded very strong for Huesca and suddenly it was signed by Real Zaragoza. I know him from having seen him with the Ibiza. Last year I saw how he played because I was watching the promotion playoffs from Primera FREF to Segunda. In theory he was unknown but he got promotion and several clubs have wanted him. We will have to wait and give him the point of confidence to see how he manages who I am, where I am and what reference I have with the players they bring me.
Q. Finally, you don’t stop. Now in June the XXXI edition of the ‘Juan Seor Football Campus’ is launched. I’m looking forward to getting back to normal…
R. Yes, after two years without being able to do it due to the pandemic, we will be back next time with boys and girls from 6 to 15 years old. I will be supervising everything and helping with everything tactical. Also advising and advising personally. This year we will be in Calatayud (June 27 to July 2), Remolinos (June 27 to July 1), Daroca (July 4 to 9), Alcorisa (July 4 to 8) and Zaragoza (from July 11 to 15).
