A Russian convoy of at least 58 war vehicles was trying to encircle Lisychansk and Severodonetsk in Donbas by crossing a river when they were hit by Russian troops, causing a massacre that left heavy casualties.
Satellite images expose the magnitude of the failure, with the remains of two bridges drifting pontoons on the Donets River in Bilohorivka, west of Lisychansk, surrounded by the ruins of tanks and armored vehiclesaccording to the Daily Mail.
The British newspaper assures that on the morning of May 8, Russia covered the river with smoke, burning the nearby fields and throwing grenades desperately. Commanders detected the sound of the ships’ engines and ordered artillery strikes that caused devastating losses.
North of Kharkiv, commanders reported that “occupation forces moved into defense to slow the pace of our troops’ offensive,” according to the Daily Mail. This means that it is the only section of the front line that remains active.
The people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk declared their independence on May 12, 2014, in the midst of the conflict with the Ukrainian Army in the Donbas region (east). Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of Lugansk and Donetsk days before February 24, 2022, the date on which he ordered the start of the invasion of Ukrainian territory.
Putin has stressed that the Russian Army “will defend the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity” of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, whose independence was recognized by Moscow in February, days before launching a military offensive against Ukraine.
