Lhe way in which fans consume sports is changing, driven by the growth of streaming and the multiple content platforms that are emerging. This has even led companies to change their business and sponsorship strategy. It is no longer enough to see the sporting event as an isolated entity, but rather it is accompanied by a multimedia device that complements the experience. And that is where technology companies want to go: to enhance that user experience.
One of these companies is NTT Data, which recently introduced a new 5G solution focused on sporting events to create new digital content that viewers of different sports can access. from their smartphones, all through real-time video processing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR).
We are facing the opportunity to see future events from a different perspective
In other words, what they seek is that, using the power of 5G technology, fans can interact through their mobile device in real time while watching a sporting event. It is enough to have cameras in the stadiums that broadcast live with 5G technology to upload the information with a low latency and high quality. and with Artificial Intelligence in the cloud, everything is updated and unraveled.
It can be projected in two ways on the mobile. One is through event statistics with graphic information. The other is through augmented reality, in which a fan can choose a specific play to see it in 3D from their living room.
“We are watching a game of the Spanish team and for example Busquets’ party is attracting our attention. At that moment we can recreate in our room through augmented reality his heat map in that meetinginstantly”, explains Teodoro López Palacios, partner of the Telecommunications Sector of NTT Data Europe and LATAM.
For López, it is the definitive step towards a new way of consuming sport: “We are facing the opportunity to see future sporting events from a completely different perspective. Now the fan will have the ability to interact in real time with all the statistics generated digitally. This advance gives way to the definitive achievement of what we will know as connected stadiums”.
They are steps towards the definitive achievement of what we will know as connected stages
The idea is to achieve the highest degree of customization possible. “You can start with something basic, like statistics, but you can also personalize it,” says López. With a mobile application you can access all this information and settings. And be accessible to everyone: “The only thing that is needed is that the device has 5G.”
This solution presented by NTT Data is just the beginning. “Concept tests have been carried out and the next thing is to continue advancing with new phases“, they warn. Using new technologies to enrich the user experience is a new step in the consumption of sporting events. And that step is about to take place.
