Some 60 Russian ships carry out naval maneuvers in the Baltic and near Kaliningrad

About 60 Russian ships, including warships, launches and supply boats, they are taking part in the planned naval tactical maneuvers of the Russian Navy Baltic Fleet for the military exercises that began today in the Baltic Sea and on ranges in the Kaliningrad region. The Ministry of Defense also reported that more than 40 planes and helicopters and up to 2,000 units of war equipment are in the area for the military exercises that start today

According to the Russian command, the maneuvers, which take place at a time of high international tension due to the Russian military campaign in Ukraine, will last until June 19. “Nearly 60 warships, launches and supply ships, more than 40 planes and helicopters, and up to 2,000 units of war equipment from the Baltic Fleet participate in the exercises”reported the Russian Ministry of Defense on its website.

The objectives of the maneuvers are to increase the level of preparation of the forces and the military command of the Baltic Fleet, added the military entity. These maneuvers were preceded by special supply exercises, as well as practices to put the forces in a state of maximum alert.

“In the framework of the exercises, the naval tactical groups of the Baltic Fleet left their bases and were located in the destination areas in the Baltic Sea and will carry out training tasks for the defense of the sea routes and the bases of the fleet,” Defense said.

A few weeks ago, on the occasion of the possible incorporation of Finland and Sweden into NATO, the Kremlin threatened the Alliance with “proportional military incursions” if these countries finally joined.

“Russia will be forced to adopt both military-technical and other response measures in order to counteract the threats that have arisen for its national security,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement at the time.
