Mexico City- Don Martín Vidal Miranda arrived at the Red Devils of Mexico in the 1960s and at the beginning of 2022 he said goodbye becoming the ‘Guardian Angel’ in charge of taking care of and maintaining in perfect condition the playing fields that have been part of the history of the team: Social Security Park, Foro Sol, Fray Nano and the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium.
Don Martín was the Head of the Maintenance Squad of the ‘Pandilla Escarlata’ field, a position he held thanks to the deep experience he obtained from the 1970s, when he began with general maintenance work in the Seguro Deportivo Park. Social.
“I like that people come and admire the field, the entire field,” Don Martín explained in an interview. “The half moon, the infield, the gardens, the hill, the home plate, everything must be in perfect condition. We (the maintenance team) are also part of the team ”.
Vidal Miranda arrived at the Red Devils at 12 years of age (1966) joining the team’s office, but later the then team owner, Ángel Vázquez, gave him the opportunity to work in the care of the field of the Social Security Park .
Little by little, he was acquiring the necessary knowledge to leave the entire diamond in perfect condition, a situation that opened the door for him to take charge of the maintenance team of the land and of the PSS in general.
In addition to the fact that his work was always key so that the Baseball Cathedral in Mexico City always looked impeccable, a recommendation from him gave a touch of magic to the Cuauhtémoc and Obrero Mundial property, by suggesting that half of the seats be painted. in red and the other half in blue.
Another part of his legacy in the PSS occurred in the early morning of June 2, 2000, since that day Don Martín and his brother Florencio were in charge of removing the home plate after the last game took place in that park of ball.
Before that chapter, he was responsible for making the Foro Sol become a baseball field by spearheading all the works to build an artificial playing field on the concrete surface that existed there, being responsible for maintaining it during the 14 years the Devils played on this site.
Thanks to his excellent work and knowledge, Don Martín was chosen by the Major Leagues to take charge of the changes that were needed in the Foro Sol and in the Fray Nano so that there would be preseason matches, as well as for the World Classic matches of 2009 on that site.
Thanks to his deep knowledge about the correct care that baseball fields need, Don Martín not only took care of them, since he was also in charge of building them at different levels, both for other teams of the Mexican League and for the Alfredo Baseball Academy. Harp Helú.
Don Martín Vidal’s legacy grew even more after he was in charge of setting up the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium field, a task that he guided from the beginning until it was ready for its premiere in 2019. From there, he and his team They maintained the field of the ‘Fire Diamond’ with the highest quality standards, which were seen both in the 2021 Season of the Mexican Baseball League and in the 2021 Edition of the Mexican Winter League (LIM).
