Some wireless headphones lost in a gym, a desperate owner. A military barracks in Badajoz. One down the road. The Military Police… all these ingredients have made Iván Patxi Gómez Gallego’s thread go viral.
Gómez Gallego, is a collaborator of #podcast producer and collaborator of Very Interesting, Marie Claire and Very Historicy one of your most important work tools is your wireless headset. Like every day, he started his routine at the gym, but he made a mistake and forgot his AirPods. At that moment, he began a bizarre story, narrated through Twitter that involves a soldier, a Badajoz barracks, and even the Military Police.
Gómez Gallego was able to keep track of his headphones and verified how, in a matter of hours, they had gone from being in a gym located in a shopping center on the Barcelona highway in Madrid to a barracks in Badajoz. Geolocation does not fail. For this reason, he made an appeal on Twitter to try to recover them: “Hello @EjercitoTierra, could you tell the military that you have my AirPods can you return them to me? This morning he must have found them in the gym O2 Plenilunio and has taken them. He is in the barracks badajozThe brigade Extremadura XIexcellent brigade by the way…”, he said with humor.
Gómez Gallego was instantly updating how the situation was evolving. In fact, he tried to get the problem resolved in a cordial manner, without raising issues or internal investigations. He just appealed to common sense.
“There is no need to open any investigation. @EjercitoTierra @DefensagobYou are now listening to music in that building, which is at the bottom right as you enter the barracks. Let’s see that the same thing has been a mistake, if he returns them to me… I would be there”.
But after 10:00 p.m. something unexpected happened: “I’m worried right now… the right earphone is in one place, and the left one is in another. Are you sharing the headphones with someone else? Did you drop it and can’t find it? Is a dog eating it? 😳😕”. “We have a problem…they’ve been separated, if they’re trying to get them to “talk” they won’t get it…they have been trained suffering insufferable playlists and hours and hours of podcasts…”, he added.
The news that reached him was not good and his concern was increasing: “I think we have had a combat casualty ✝️… the right earphone was last seen at 9:06 p.m. peninsular time. “At sunset, without inclement weather , at a clear disadvantage and being separated from his left brother… let’s hope that at dawn he will be recharged…”
After a sleepless night, @ivanpatxi still woke up with humor and with a legion of followers who instantly demanded information on any news. Some joked about the situation and renamed the thread “Save Private Airpod” or “Some loose Airpods“, others reminded him that the building in question belonged to high-ranking officials…
“Twenty-first day of the third month, at dawn and with the first rays of the sun, it is reported that the airpods continue to give their best, their part of the information indicates that they are still at the same point and it is more than possible that they have stayed up all night,” he tweeted early in the morning.
With the passing of minutes, the case accelerated, and @ivanpatxi accelerated his efforts to recover his headphones. After several attempts, he managed to contact the Badajoz barracks and despite the fact that it all sounded like a joke, he managed to convince them that the situation was real and the Military Police set out. “The call with the barracks has been excellent, I am in contact right now with the PM, and they are reporting my case… it seems that we are on the right track… the soldiers with whom I speak, as I suspected of 10”.
And it seems that they took the matter seriously because, as he explained, they continually informed him of each step they took and of any new developments.
Despite the situation, Gómez Gallego did not lose his sense of humor: “I have written a book, two documentaries, executive producer in another, creator of several podcasts, I teach at universities, I give curious daily news about science or weekly I tell things about history and science…and people will know me as the ‘airpod dummy'”
Real or not, this simple soap opera has kept numerous Twitter users on edge, who wait glued to the screen for the outcome of the story…
