Russia has surpassed this Thursday the barriers of 9.9 million cases and 285,000 deaths from coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, after a day in which more than 30,000 infections and about 1,200 deaths have been reported in the Eurasian country .
Thus, the national operational center for the fight against the pandemic has indicated that during the last 24 hours 30,209 positives and 1,181 deaths have been confirmed, bringing the totals to 9,925,806 and 286,004, respectively, according to the Russian agency. of Sputnik news.
The capital, Moscow, is once again the city with the most cases and deaths, with 2,948 and 92, respectively, while Saint Petersburg has added 2,111 infections and 54 deaths and the province of Moscow has registered 1,616 and 50, respectively.
The agency has also highlighted that a total of 8,637,861 people have recovered to date from COVID-19, including 35,794 during the last day, while the National Consumer Protection Office (Rospotrebnadzor) has stated that more than 1 , 6 million people are under observation for possible infections.
Russian health authorities confirmed on Monday that they had detected the first two infections of the omicron variant of the coronavirus. “The variant has been confirmed,” Rospotrebnadzor said, amid the decline in case numbers after the rebound between late October and early November.
