The President of Egypt, Abdelfatá al Sisiordered to manufacture near 40,000 missiles to send to Russia in the framework of the war against Ukraine, according to the leaking of the leaked documents of the US Intelligence Services, according to the newspaper ‘The Washington Post’.
According to this medium, in some of the leaked documents, dated February 17, they reveal alleged conversations between the Egyptian president and senior officials of his Army, whom he asks to maintain production and secret shipment of weapons “to avoid problems with the West”. It should be remembered that Egypt is a close ally of the United States in the Middle East.
In the document, the president talks to someone named Salah al Din -which ‘The Washington Post’ suggests could be about Mohamed Salah al Din, secretary of state for military production-, who suggests that the employees will work overtime if necessary, since “it is the least we could do for the previous aid of Russia”, without specifying which aid they are referring to.
The military also alleged that “the Russians will buy anything” in terms of arms and ammunition, always according to the aforementioned newspaper.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, responded to questions from the American newspaper alleging that “Egypt’s position from the beginning is non-intervention (…) to maintain an equal distance from both sides.”
On the other hand, a US official consulted by the media, has explained -as an anonymous source- that His country is not aware that these arms supply plans were fulfilled.
The United States Department of Defense has acknowledged that the recent leak of documents containing “highly confidential and classified” information It poses “a very serious risk to national security”, although he has not yet commented on the information from ‘The Washington Post’.
The documents apparently remained in discorda messaging service that doubles as a social network, from January to early March, when a user posted dozens of them in a group with a larger number of members.
Since then, at least a dozen files have been disseminated through other channels. An edited version of one of these documents surfaced last week via the Russian messaging app Telegram.
The documents detail the US assessment of the war in Ukraine and include plans to reinforce the Ukrainian military for a counteroffensive, as well as data on the state of Russian forces. It also includes sensitive material about Canada, China, Israel or South Korea.
