New York will impose covid-19 vaccine to private sector workers at the end of December. The announcement coincides with the entry into force of new requirements for travelers flying to the United States.
The mayor of the city, Bill de Blasio, explained at a press conference that the measure will take effect from December 27. This measure is pioneering in the United States and will affect 184,000 businesses. The development of the measure will be important because Biden has already tried to implement it at the federal level, but justice stopped it.
On the other hand, de Blasio has also announced that from that same day, all the population over 12 years of age will have to have received two doses of the covid-19 vaccine, that is, the full guideline to access restaurants, gyms or entertainment venues.
This represents a tightening of the measure in force until now that allows entry with only one dose. Right now, 90% of residents in the city he has already received an injection.
The mayor of the city has acknowledged that the measure is strict. It is announced at a time when countries are carefully studying the behavior of the omicron variant of the coronavirus. In fact, in New York the first cases have already been detected, although, according to Bill de Blasio, it will “end up spreading” because “at this moment it seems very transmissible.”
“We have the tools, but we have to use them aggressively, and we have to act quickly. And so I describe the actions we are taking today as a preemptive strike“, he explained. The mayor plans to give more details about this new measure next week.
