The Lebanese Parliament on Tuesday approved a law that will allow fines of between 50,000 and 250,000 Lebanese pounds (between 30 and 150 euros) to be imposed on those who refuse to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
The new legislation does not provide for compulsory vaccination but it will mean that those who refuse to attend their appointment are sanctioned accordingly, according to information from the Al Jadid television channel.
Lebanon has recently seen a spike in coronavirus cases and incidence. Given the appearance of the omicron variant, the Government has introduced new restriction measures for people arriving in the country, in addition to a curfew, effective from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Lebanon carries out a free vaccination campaign with vials approved by the Ministry of Health. According to the latest data, more than 30 percent of the population has the vaccine. To date, the country has detected 679,625 cases of COVID-19, including 8,785 deaths.
