The Government of Israel has notified this Tuesday about 3,000 cases of coronavirus in one day for the first time in three days, amid the expansion of the omicron variant, which has led Prime Minister Naftali Bennett to warn of the possibility of impose restrictions again.
The Israeli Ministry of Health has indicated on its website that 2,952 infections have been registered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,369,417, with 8,242 deaths due to COVID-19.
He also highlighted that there are currently 15,487 active cases in the country, with 137 hospitalized patients, including 85 in serious condition. Of this number, 46 are in critical condition and 18 are connected to respirators.
On the other hand, it has stated that 6,524,391 people have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine so far, of which 5,893,738 already have the full schedule and 4,208,300 have received a third booster dose.
In this context, Bennett – who is quarantining after his daughter tested positive for COVID-19 – has stated during the day this Tuesday in an interview with Army Radio that the country is close to a ” contagion storm “on a scale” never seen before in Israel.
The prime minister has stated that “omicron is different from anything that has been seen.” “It is more contagious, we are seeing that it breaks records around the world, almost everywhere,” he said, before revealing that the authorities are considering new measures to deal with the situation.
On the other hand, he has said that he “does not believe” in the idea of sanctioning people who have not been vaccinated and has stressed that he works to avoid confinement at the national level, although he has declined to completely rule out this possibility, as has collected the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
“My goal from the beginning of the pandemic is to avoid confinements as far as possible,” he stressed. “I do not know what will happen. In any case, we will be in a challenging situation regarding the capacity of the hospitals and we will do what is right,” the Israeli prime minister has settled.
