shock in Netherlands for the violent death of a 4-year-old boy named Dean Verberckmoes, who had disappeared last Thursday and that he was found dead on Monday after allegedly being kidnapped by his caretaker. Authorities have revealed that the caretaker had been jailed in the past for killing another child.
the body of Dean Verberckmoes was discovered in the Dutch province of Zeeland after an intense police search. “The police investigation revealed a possible crime scene on Monday night,” police said in a statement. “The helicopter was also deployed to get an image of the area. Around 10 p.m. they found the lifeless body of a child.” On Twitter, Zeeland Police said: “Thank you all for the help and our condolences to the family.”
Hours later, officers arrested a 34-year-old Belgian man in the city of Meerkerk, 95 kilometers northeast of where the body was found. Dean had last been seen in the Belgian city of Sint Niklaas, near Antwerp, in the company of this man, identified as Dave DeKreported the public broadcaster NOS.
The Belgian press assures that the detainee had served eight years of a ten-year sentence from 2010 for child abuse that caused the death of a two-year-old boy, prosecutors in Belgium said. “The person in question served his sentence and the sentence came to an end in December 2018″, the prosecution added.
Little Dean’s mother has said that she couldn’t take care of her son that day due to a medical problem, so she asked De K. and his girlfriend to take care of him all night. The boy had stayed with the couple before with no problems and was excited to visit them again, his mother told local media, according to the NL Times newspaper. The family reported the minor’s disappearance after his caregiver did not leave him the next day at the grandparents’ house, as planned.
Apparently, De K had a fight with his partner and left with the child in his car. The mother and De K. were in contact on Saturday afternoon, but then he stopped returning her phone calls. A police alert was issued on Sunday and Dutch authorities got involved on Monday.
