Former Trump chief of staff sues Pelosi and the commission investigating the assault on the Capitol

, Dec 9 () –

Mark Meadows, former chief of staff of former President Donald Trump, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against the speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and against the commission investigating the assault on the Capitol.

Meadows’ lawsuit comes precisely after the House has indicated that it would continue to advance contempt proceedings against him because he has chosen not to cooperate with the commission.

Thus, Trump’s former chief of staff has demanded that the District Court in Washington block the execution of a subpoena that the commission has issued for him and Verizon, the provider of his old personal mobile phone – to access his records – .

The lawsuit indicates that these subpoenas are “unduly serious” and it is argued that the commission “lacks legal authority” to obtain the information requested from Meadows, reports the US network CNN.

Likewise, the document defends the prevalence of the executive privilege demanded by Trump regarding the investigation to prevent access to various information, a request rejected by the Administration of the president, Joe Biden, after which the ex-president filed a lawsuit and a lawsuit was opened. .

Before deciding to stop cooperating with the commission, Meadows provided 6,000 pages of documents that would contain significant information relevant to the investigation.

Among Trump’s allies, former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark also faces contempt proceedings for refusing to cooperate, while a jury already indicted the former president’s former adviser, Steve Bannon, in November for contempt of Congress.
