Juan Carlos Unzue presented this Monday the charity match to be held at the Camp Nou on August 24 between Barcelona and Manchester City. All proceeds from this match will be dedicated to fight against ALS, disease that Unzue suffers from. The former goalkeeper was accompanied at the event by Joan Laporta and Pep Guardiola as representatives of the two participating clubs.
“It was a great happiness to see that from minute one both City and Barcelona were committed to help with the celebration of this party. We already tried to do it last year, but unfortunately the pandemic didn’t allow us to celebrate it. All proceeds will go to research for a cure for ALS,” said Unzue.
He also asked the fans to attend the meeting: “I encourage all Bara and City football fans to we can fill the Camp Nou. I am convinced that people will respond. I encourage the world of sport to continue showing that we are supportive.”
The Barça president highlighted Barcelona’s role in this cause: “The more than a club is not understood if there is no commitment to society. We can give a great message to the world. And we have to make this disease known so that one day it will have a solution.”
Guardiola was also happy to participate in a match for this cause: “It is an honor that you have thought of our team and to be able to participate in a match like this in a setting like the Camp Nou. We will come with all the strap and I am convinced that it will be full.”
