At least 30 protesters have been arrested during the anti-fascist protests called for this Sunday in response to the first campaign event to be held by the far-right presidential candidate Eric Zemmour in Villepinte, on the outskirts of Paris.
Hundreds of anti-fascist activists have gathered in the vicinity of the Villepinte Exhibition Center, where Zemmour’s first campaign act will be held this afternoon. About thirty protesters entered a restricted area and were arrested for identification, a police source has reported cited by the French press.
Just a few minutes after the start of the rally, the Police intervened to disperse the protesters who had arrived by public transport.
In addition, hundreds of other protesters have gathered in the Parisian district of Barbès to express their rejection of Zemmour at the summons of fifty unions, political parties and associations.
A political event was also held by the left-wing candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who proclaimed that “France is not the extreme right!”.
“France is social security, it is public health, it is emancipation, it is school, it is research, it is sharing,” Mélenchon has argued from La Défense. The leader of La Francia Insoumise has called for “a show of force” in the face of the mobilization of the extreme right.
