Another 4.2 magnitude tremor with an epicenter also near Coiba, 67 kilometers away, and at a depth of 10 kilometers, occurred 10 minutes later, the Institute of Geosciences indicated.
The earthquake was strongly felt in some areas of Panama City, where several buildings in the old banking area were preventively evicted, as EFE confirmed.
In the city of David, capital of the western province of Chiriquí, the tremor led to the preventive evacuation of the Rafael Hernández hospital and the Autonomous University of Chiriquí.
Inhabitants of the commuter town of La Chorrera, located to the west of the Panamanian capital, also reported that the earthquake was felt there, although slightly.
