An SU-27 fighter of the Russian Air Force has impacted this Tuesday with a United States unmanned aerial vehicle over international waters in the Black Sea, according to the North American Armed Forces, which have denounced a maneuver “unsafe and unprofessional” by two Russian planes.
The command of the US forces in Europe has confirmed this incident in a statement, which occurred early in the morning. One of the Russian fighters hit one of the drone’s propellerswhich led the US authorities to shoot it down at sea.
“Our MQ-9 aircraft was conducting routine operations in international airspace. when it was intercepted and hit by a Russian plane, which resulted in a crash and the complete loss of the MQ-9,” explained Commander James B Heckerwho has warned that there is “almost” a total shock.
Hecker has urged Russian forces to behave in a “professional and safe” manner in the area, to the extent that the United States and its allies “will continue to operate in international airspace.” In this sense, Washington has denounced “a pattern of dangerous actions” by Russian pilots, at a particularly delicate moment due to the escalation of tensions around Ukraine.
In fact, the US forces fear a “miscalculation” and an “unintended escalation” of such tensions.
Washington on Tuesday condemned the “reckless” collision of a Russian fighter plane with one of its reconnaissance drones over the Black Sea that led to the destruction of the American aircraft.
The Russian air interceptions in the area are common, but this one “is noteworthy for how unsafe and unprofessional it was, in fact it was reckless,” The US National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby.
He event took place around 07:03 in the morning local time and according to the European command of the United States in a statement, his drone was carrying out a routine operation when it was intercepted and hit by a Russian fighter, which led the US forces to shoot him down in international waters.
